A comprehensive master planning process for the Edgewood community is now underway. This is a milestone in the history of the neighborhood. There has not been a master plan that has engaged the community in envisioning the preferred future for Edgewood -- what that looks like and how to get there.
Beginning in January 2008, the Organized Neighbors of Edgewood (ONE), working in partnership with representatives of NPU O, Atlanta Public Schools, Whitefoord Community Program, Kirkwood Neighbor’s Organization (KNO), MARTA, the City of Atlanta Bureau of Planning, Zeist Foundation, and large property owners in the community, began to engage the larger community in creating a guiding Master Plan for Edgewood. Market + Main, Inc. is the lead in facilitating the planning process from January to June of this year, with design support from Lord Aeck Sargent.
To date, Edgewood has grown into a truly desirable intown community with many great assets for its residents and businesses. However, a good deal of this has been without much planning and with limited input from those in the community. The Master Plan process will focus on land uses, transportation, market conditions, and urban design recommendations. It will be an opportunity for all in the neighborhood to work to ensure that the community strengths and assets are preserved and that the current weaknesses and concerns are appropriately addressed.
The process will utilize a series of community meetings where everyone in the neighborhood will be asked to participate and provide direction to the plan. The most crucial input meeting for the entire process is the Edgewood Community Planning Workshop. There will be follow-up meetings to the workshop during ONE’s regularly scheduled monthly meetings in April, May, and June.
Please mark the key meeting dates on your calendar and make it a priority to come out to be a part of this exciting process! This Master Plan needs your involvement, your local expertise and insight, and ultimately, your ideas to help make this the visionary and consensus-building tool that it can be.
Join your neighbors in planning for the future of the Edgewood community at these upcoming meeting times.
